An old European hybrid of unknown parentage, this Cryptanthus was the goto black and white houseplant. Now surpassed by many more newer, and more vigorous hybrids, this old staple still has its charms. It is medium, deep black with white markings, at its best in indirect light, and has an irregular diamond-shaped growth habit. Now, most commonly found in tissue culture, which has brought about a much less vigorous and weaker plant. It won the Cryptanthus Society Outstanding Hybrid for 1991.
