An unusual shrub-type Begonia from Eastern Brazil. We have observed this species in the Chapada Diamantina region of Bahia where it was thriving in full sun in rocky soil. Thick stems are sub-woody and erect but gnarled, bearing dried stipules that lend a snake-skin appearance. The kidney-shaped leaves are thick, dark green and hirsute, having a coating of fine hairs. Ever blooming, clusters of sweet, spicy fragrant white flowers are borne on long peduncles year-round. Easy to grow, allow to dry between waterings.
