An uncommon Brazilian species from Paraiba, named for the star-shaped scales on the inflorescence. A fairly large grower with relatively narrow leaves in an upright rosette to about 3ft tall, green above and slightly brownish banded below and brown at the base. The inflorescence exceeds the leaves on a reddish scape topped with about a dozen compound branches with reddish bracts and flowers with dark yellow flowers.
