This plant is a beauty with a checkered past! Probably originating in the 70s in southern California, it has been variously offered as triangularis Red Band and maculata, but appears to be a hybrid of the two. A plant with upright tubular growth of tapering, stiff, spiny leaves, light green with ample red banding. The inflorescence is like that of triangularis, a corn-cob shaped white cone with pale, brownish-yellow flowers and bright red bracts. A handsome plant for pot or landscape culture. Prefers strong light for best form and color.
