An incredibly lovely sport of this handsome giant species. Aechmea mexicana is found in open areas of forest and in scrubland, beach dunes and other suitable areas from southern Mexico to Ecuador. Just where the albomarginated sport comes from originally we do not know, it may have wild origins or may be from cultivation.
An open rosette to over three feet across, with wide light green leaves boldly albomarginated with creamy white. The inflorescence is a tall, heavy panicle of white berries that start out with a coating of silvery indument and becomes glossy with age. A true collector's item only a few years ago when it was offered for up to $250.00 each, it is now readily available but still a choice collector item or a hardy landscape subject.
