YELLOW FLOWER
STIFF LEAF
A medium sized species from northern South America that grows upright with stiff, spiny leaves. The foliage is green with a grayish cast and random reddish markings.
The spines are moderate sized but stiff and serrate. The inflorescence is a rachis with short, distichous branches forming a cylindrical spike. Flowers are yellow and the ovaries yellowish.
After blooming the ovaries form berries that turn white they blue as they ripen. This was at one time a choice collector item in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Now it is rather uncommon in cultivation. Nice for a 6 inch pot or in landscape.
