A clone from seeds collected in the South West coastal area of Madagascar. Considered the smallest species of Baobab, though to see one you'd hardly think so. Usually mature at about 30 feet tall or less, they can reach double that. Called the Fony Baobab, it is a spectacular plant to see in the wild. The ragged crown of branches sits atop an extremely swollen trunk that can be up to eight feet in diameter and which constricts to a small fraction of that just below the branches. The bark in mature plants is reddish brown and the palmately compound leaves linear-lanceolate with serrated margins. Flowers are deep red and fruits spherical and covered with red velvet.
