A cultivar of (calyculata x recurvata) is a tough and handsome small grower that keeps a compact shape in varying light conditions. The recurvata parent lends an upright, compact, vase-like shape, and the calyculata parent adds the bright yellow flowering inflorescence. Nice for landscape around boulders.

Nice plant in size and shape for terrariums. Somewhat upright stoloniferous rosettes to about 8 inches or so, will hold a considerable amount of water in the leaf axials.

The green leaves have dark bases, fairly small spines and the inflorescence is a delicate spike with sessile flowers bearing red sepals and blue petals.

Aechmea nudicaulis ‘Alba’. This is a handsome curiosity from the hugely variable nudicaulis group. A medium sized plant at about 12 to 16 inches tall, narrowly tubular, with a deep ‘thumb print’ near the base of each leaf. The leaves are green and the bracts and flowers are both white. First brought into cultivation by Wally Berg from one of his Brazilian trips.
