An unusual bromeliad of the Atlantic Forest of Brazil from the states of Rio de Janeiro to Santa Catarina in lowland forests up to about 1,000 feet. A large grower, easily reaching 4 feet across, with 2 inch wide leaves, heavily armed with large red spines. The colors, coppery to bronzy-green, mottled with darker markings and vivid red tips extending several inches, darken in strong light. A bit of a shy bloomer, the inflorescence, nested in the center, has pointed red bracts and white flowers. Great for landscape or as a large showy container plant.

A giant form of concolor from Mexico with the same general characteristics as the typical form, but reaching nearly a foot across. A desert dweller with a restricted range, it can be seen growing on cacti and Acacia in the extremely harsh country near Cuicatlan, Oaxaca. Stiff yellowish-green foliage tints reddish in the sun, and a shiny multiple branched spike of yellow to red with pink flowers. An outstanding plant.
Note:It is suggested by the BSI that this is a natural hybrid of unknown parentage. I doubt that. The plants are abundant in habitat but of limited range and they vary little. I believe that this is just a large and attractive clone or possibly form of the species. The ‘normal’ form does not seem to occur within the range of ‘Cuicatlan‘.
An albomarginated clone of Cryptanthus zonatus (aka fosterianus). Growing from 18 inches to 24 inches across, the leaves are a chocolate brown in color with hot pink margins. There are regularly spaced silver bands across the leaves. Truly one of the best Cryptanthus to have!

A lovely plant introduced by Bullis some years ago but without breeder or cross information. It may be a cultivar of chlorosticta x ‘Fireball’; but it is not known for sure. A smaller grower to about 12 inches across, with multi-colored leaves that are blotched, banded and speckled with shades of yellow and green over a red background. With maturity the center develops whitish blotches on the leaves and in the center. A choice, colorful plant that is a favorite of hybridizers.
The smallest species of Neoregelia. Native to Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, it’s a little-bitty thing to barely two inches tall with green leaves mottled with reddish-brown. It grows in clusters on one to two inch stolons and will shortly fill to overflowing a hanging pot or basket. Very easy to grow successfully and wildly popular with hybridizers of miniature bromeliads. The terrarium crowd has also adopted this plant as a staple.
A true miniature from Brazil and one of the smallest and cutest of the Vrieseas. Mature at barely 3 inches tall, it has short triangular leaves which curl downward at the tips, and are green with red spotting. A must for the miniature plant fancier and outstanding in terrariums.
We offer cork pieces already broken into useful sizes, especially useful for those who may find it difficult to break pieces up by hand. Thickness varies from about a half inch to an inch and weighs 2 ounces (small) and 6 ounces (medium) each.
This material is widely touted to be the best and most durable substrate for mounting epiphytic plants; resisting rot and pests and lasting for many years under greenhouse conditions. The upper surface is rough and craggy and the underside, harder and fairly smooth. This product is harvested sustainably in Portugal from Quercus suber, the cork oak, and it's main use is for bottle stoppers and shoe soles. This is a completely natural product. Easily broken into any size needed and can be 'drilled' with an awl or ice pick.
