This species has the only red flowers in the genus Pachypodium. The flowers of baronii v. baronii are brighter red, with twisted or crinkled petals. The flowers of variety windsorii are flatter, but more a shade of deep pink or red with a yellowish element. Native to the eroded limestone peak in northern Madagascar known as Windsor Castle, where it gets its name. Very restricted in range, it is critically endangered in habitat. An extremely decorative species with a globular, almost spherical shaped caudex, tapering to a main trunk but with multiple other branches emerging from the main caudex. The caudex is spineless but the branches have stout, spherical spines. Cultivate in full sun for the best shape, normal watering when actively growing and less when dormant, but do not let the soil turn bone dry.
