This is a large growing plant. A bigeneric cross made here at Tropiflora is a cultivar of (Deuterocohnia brevispicata x Dyckia estevesii). The plant grows larger than either parent, to about four feet across and nearly three feet tall in a leafy rosette of arching red green leaves with red margins and substantial red spines. The leaves are tough and fairly stiff, three inches wide at the base, tapering to a fine point. In strong light the entire plant can blush bright red. The inflorescence is up to nearly six feet tall, a many branched panicle, reddish-orange overall orange-yellow flowers. Unlike the Deuterocohnia parent, the inflorescence is not perennial. A spectacular plant for landscape use.
