As far as we can determine, this species is not yet in cultivation. According to the late Mr. Harry Luther at the BIC, the plants originated from wild seed collected in December 1996. David Benzing found the parent plant in Roberto Kautsky's preserve in Domingos Martins, Espirito Santo, Brazil, where it had fallen out of a tree. Since it had a ripe infructesence, he collected some seed. He noted that the species was similar to A. sphaerocephala but much smaller at only about 36in across.
