A large growing, robust hybrid by Bullis that allegedly is a cross of (Aechmea chantinii x fasciata). We have always had doubts, suspecting that this cross involves perhaps Androlepis as it is much more robust and larger than similar crosses by other breeders. At any rate it is a beautiful plant with broad leaves in a wide spreading rosette. The leaves are stiff and tinted reddish over olive with silver scurffing. The inflorescence is a head of yellowish branches and bright red bracts. A great plant for color in the landscape. It has a very architectural shape.
