A scandent epiphytic or lithophytic fern with oblong, very fleshy, succulent leaves on a creeping rhizome. Native to SE Asia from India to the Philippines and Malaysia. Often seen in clusters covering tree trunks and limbs with closely spaced leaves. Called ‘Dragon Scales’ locally due to the effect of the closely spaced leaves. The thick rounded leaves contrast with the fertile fronds which are thinner, linear in shape and bear rows of spores. A very drought tolerant plant in nature, it takes well to mounting on bark or a basket with only a thin substrate of moss to hold some moisture. Easy to grow and great in terrariums.
