This is a wild collected species from Brazil thought to be a lineated or variegated Aechmea sphaerocephala but as it has not yet bloomed, no one is sure of its true identity. Anyway the plant has the look and so far the size of a sphaerocephala. A large grower, the largest we have is almost 4 feet across, but if it is a true sphaerocephala, it will get even larger.
Leaves are 3 inches wide and three feet long, and appear to be yellowish white with light and dark green striations running the length of the leaves. Large and intense, stiff spines. Not a plant for the timid grower! A spectacular plant for those with outdoor conditions suitable or LOTS of indoor space. Nothing else is like this one! First released in 2012.
