This widespread species is found from Peru to Bolivia and Brazil. We have several slightly different clones in our collection, each with different characteristics. This particular one was a 2000 ISI introduction and is a compact plant to about 12 inches max, and has silvery-green leaves. A nice feature is that it offsets freely and blooms faithfully with a tall, branched inflorescence up almost 4 feet tall, with bright yellow flowers. As is characteristic with Deuterocohnia, the inflorescence persists after anthesis to bloom again in successive years.
