THIS PLANT IS ON C.I.T.E.S. AND CANNOT BE EXPORTED

A rare species of the sandy deciduous and thorn forests of western Madagascar. A shrub with thin branches that can reach three feet tall and wide in nature. The slender branches bear narrow, inch-long, deciduous leaves that leave a rigid spine (stipule) after the leaves fall. A napiform (beet shaped) taproot can be elevated to expose the top portion, making this plant appealing to the caudex-plant lover.

The flowers on this species are slender, with red and yellow cyathophylls which do not spread open at anthesis, leaving the flowers to resemble those of Pedilanthus. This species likes well draining soil, warm temps and bright light for good growth.
