This large growing form comes mainly from Belize. It has a bulbous base, green all over, shaped like an egg, with twisted wiry leaves. Bizarre. The inflorescence is branched and brilliant red, and the whole top of the plant blushes red too when it is in bloom. Easy to grow mounted in a bright spot, out of full sun. Enjoys frequent watering and feeding for best results. This giant form may reach 10 to 14 inches tall or more with a base up to 5 inches long and two inches thick.
Nice sized plant packed with care to avoid damaging the leaves. Never had a problem with Tropiflora.

A species from Bolivia and Argentina with very stiff, pointed leaves in a 5 to 8 inch rosette. It is colorful with dark greenish-bronze leaves and a beautiful and long lasting, multi-branched inflorescence of reddish-orange, with small white flowers. A very sturdy plant, easy to grow and tolerant of some cold weather.

A perfect hybrid. Halfway between both parents (brachycaulos x concolor), this fine hybrid has the shape of a concolor with fairly stiff leaves, but a glabrous sheen like brachycaulos. At anthesis it blushes red with a short scape with long, stiff bracts and short red branches bearing deep violet flowers. Highly recommended.

An apparent natural hybrid from Mexico of (brachycoulos x paucifolia) as identified by Harry Luther. After acquiring the plant, Bill Timm made a note to ‘Ask Harry’ and I guess the name stuck. Wouldn’t have been my pick, but it is what it is. Anyway, this is a handsome little plant in an upright vase shape of stiff, deeply channelled leaves that are reddish with light silver banding. The inflorescence is fairly short, may or may not branch and is pink with blue flowers. Showy plants.

This plant has a bit of a history before becoming Tillandsia ‘Kashkin’. Having been collected in Bolivia some years ago by Michael Kashkin, it entered cultivation as simply Species Bolivia. Over the years as it passed from grower to grower, it went by ‘Caulescent jucunda’, ‘Fragrant Flower Bolivia’, and ‘Inca Gold’. Eventually Derek Butcher of Australia did the footwork to determine that the plant is likely a natural hybrid. Of what exactly is not known.
It is a slightly caulescent plant with stiff, narrow, silvery leaves, and a slightly branched inflorescence bearing large, yellow, very fragrant flowers. Easy to grow, it forms nice clusters and likes bright conditions and good air circulation.

A showy hybrid by Bill Timm is a cultivar of (balbisiana x capitata). This fairly large grower has long tapering leaves that hang in loose curls. The inflorescence is a tall scape with a bright red head and inky-blue flowers. Scape bracts are very long and tint pinkish. The amount of light the plant is grown in alter its appearance by quite a bit.

A hybrid of (brachycaulos x schiedeana). Upright to 10 inches, it has rather narrow leaves and an attenuated inflorescence that forms a tightly capitate head. A late-spring bloomer, with rosy-blushing silvery leaves and yellow flowers. This is a very interesting and different-looking plant.
