A short fat green above ground bulb, long green leaves with darker green spots. Bulbs have a glossy surface clothed in peeling, papery tunics that prevent water loss. Ledebouria is a genus of deciduous or weakly evergreen bulbs only recently established as a genus apart from Scilla. 

Ledebouria is found in India, Madagascar, and Africa (mostly southern Africa) mostly in areas of summer rainfall in subtropical savannas and grasslands in the eastern and northeastern parts of southern Africa, suited to dry shaded conditions, it can stand severe neglect and still reward you with showy foliage and blooms.

There are a few species found in winter rainfall areas as well.

We don't have much information about this species. Barberton is the area in South Africa where this particular variety was originally collected. The plant has thin fleshy strap-like leaves covered in purple spots and splotches. The small lavender flowers are borne on spikes as long as the foliage. This one has kept its leaves throughout the winter. This species resembles a miniature Manfreda when not blooming.
