A very unusual Crinum species with distichous foliage growth. A small grower with leaves that are growing on a single plane, in a fan shape.
We obtained this plant from a dealer in Thailand who thought that this plant was native there. At the time we knew of only one Crinum with distichous foliage: C. buphanoides, but that plant was from Africa.
We sold some as ‘species distichous Thailand’ and one of our customers wrote with some great news. He sent an article from Kew Gardens that described a new species, C. binghamii (Nordal Kwembeya, 2004) from western Zambia, but with the news that at least one dealer in Thailand was offering this plant! The description seems to fit, but we cannot be 100% certain until we bloom it, which we haven’t as yet, but for now, it’s our best estimate of the correct name of this plant.
