x Vriecantarea 'Julietta'
8774
A giant grower from hybridizer David Fell in Hawaii. This plant is registered as an xVriecantarea but David lists it’s parents as (‘Volcano’s Mist’ x ‘Volcano’s Mist’). ‘Volcano’s Mist’ is an Alcantarea. So, we are confused, where does the Vriesea come in? We are keeping the xVrecantarea name though as that is how the plant was registered with the BSI Cultivar Registrar.
It looks like a nice clone of Alcantarea imperialis with a leafy rosette of broad leaves, red with a veneer of silver in older plants. Highly decorative, it is popular with landscapers.

Neoregelia 'Rave'
5629
A vividly colored Ray Coleman hybrid of (Bianca x (Fr cruenta x con) x meyendorffii). Bright yellowish background with many burgundy-red concentric bands merging to solid reddish toward the leaf tips. Different, and that's a good thing when it comes to Neoregelia hybrids.
Neoregelia 'Engagement'
1310
Margaret Paterson’s clone of ‘Flirtation’ x ‘Jewelry Shop’ is a compact beauty with orange-red foliage heavily marked with yellow-green stripes and spots. (Note that our plant in the photo was being ‘pushed’ with additional fertilizer). Bright light and limited feeding will bring out the best color and shape.
Neoregelia species Sao Sebastio SP
6838
This an as yet unidentified Neoregelia species from Sao Sebastiao, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Wish we knew what this one is, it’s a beauty. Still undescribed, it has a resemblance to chlorosticta, but is not. An upright rosette of apple-green leaves, mottled with white, pink and red, with bright red tips. Pretty and unusual. Hopefully it will one day be described as a new species.

Neoregelia 'Rio Ocher' x olens 'Vulcan'
1724
An as yet unnamed cross of Neoregelia ‘Rio Ocher’ x olens ‘Vulcan’ is an apple green plant with a vivid red center flush at anthesis. The inch and a half wide leaves are somewhat thick and leathery and the marginal spines are small. It develops some red cross-banding on the leaves which become more pronounced with strong light or when grown “harder”. Offsets are on short stolons and the plant is good for mounting and for terrarium use.
Crassula sarmentosa 'Comet'
3652
Formerly Crassula sarmentosa variegated, this cultivar has a scrambling growth habit and is a great choice for a hanging basket. The plant has reddish stems which carry oval green serrated leaves with creamy yellow margins that will turn pinkish red in strong light. Colorful and easy.
I like the colors of this plant and I hope to see it grow and eventually grow enough to move to a bigger pot. So far so good. I see tiny little leaves sprouting. Hope to get some other plants soon. Tropiflora has so many plants to choose from. Keep up the good work!
Billbergia 'Cold Fusion'
5332
A nice cultivar of (Billbergia vittata ‘Domingos Martins’ x leptopoda) from Jim Irvin. This plant develops into a nice tight upright tube of stiff leaves with pronounced black spines. Leaf color is dark green to black that is covered with irregular spots and blotches of white and coral. The inflorescence is red with purple petals.

Tillandsia 'Oeseriana'
796
A hybrid of (tricolor x flabellata) made many years ago (before 1954) by Walter Richter in Germany and released in the U.S. by Mulford Foster. In spite of its long time in cultivation, it is nonetheless quite uncommon in collections. The cross takes on the best characteristics of both parents with fairly stiff, narrow, green leaves and a well-branched reddish orange inflorescence. Grows equally well potted or mounted. Tillandsia ‘Oeseriana’ (tricolor x flabellata) A hybrid made many years ago in Europe, it is nonetheless quite uncommon in cultivation. The cross takes on the best characteristics of both parents with fairly stiff, narrow, green leaves and a well-branched reddish orange inflorescence.
Tillandsia 'Pruinariza'
6578
A hybrid made in the 1970s by Luis Ariza Julia of the Dominican Republic. A cultivar of Til. ariza-juliae x pruinosa, both species native to the Dominican Republic. The plant is a small grower to about 10 inches tall but with terete leaves and a small bulbous base. The color is gray-silver with heavy trichomes.
The inflorescence is a simple spike of pink about half as tall as the foliage. Easily forms clusters and is well suited to mounting. Grow in bright light out of full sun.
