Aechmea chantinii
One of the most beautiful and popular of all bromeliads, with deep-green
leaves, evenly banded with silver, forming an upright rosette, becoming
somewhat bottle shaped before blooming. The inflorescence has crimson
branches, tipped with yellow petals and long crimson bracts and makes a long

A really fine cross by Grant
Groves, who was experimenting with cold hardy
Aechmea
hybrids. This plant is not only cold hardy to a
light freeze, it can thrive in shade or full sun. It is a shy bloomer, but
when it does bloom, the inflorescence is a nicely branched deep pink
panicle. The leaves are very showy with ivory variegation, blushing pinkish

Aechmea ramosa var. festiva
This beautiful plant differs from the ‘plain’
ramosa
in that the foliage is deep
reddish-orange. The leaves, which are up to 24in long in a mostly
upright rosette, are armed with fairly large decorative black spines.

A Brazilian species with a pendant bloom,

A handsome wide-leafed plant forming a
nicely overlapping symmetrical rosette to over 24in across. The leaves

A stiff leaved, spiny, stoloniferous species from the
Amazon basin. Easily confused with other similar species such as
rosea

eleutheropetala,
it is a medium sized plant to about 18in across. The leaves are light green,
